installing RH on my laptop

I'm getting sick of trying to force Windows XP to work on my laptop. I'm ready to install RW WS on my laptop in addtion to the install I have on another PC. There is a prexeisitng Win XP OS on the laptop right now. Do I need to reformat the disk completely in order for the Linux install to work, or will Linux overwrite it for me? I do not want a dual boot, only Linux. BTW, my laptop is a Sony Vaio FX210. I don't think I'll have issues with installing on it, but if anyone has had any experience with an install to this machine, please let me know.

Thanks

Well, I am only just new to linux, but I can tell you that much.

Linux can format for you during the install process (at least the Redhat / FC 2 Core).

Redhat 9.0 seems to be the newest RH distro, but it is actually quite old and out of date. After RH 9 came FC 1 and now we have FC2 (Fedora Core 2). Think you might be better off with that than RH 9. Other thing is if you are using the enterprise edition of RH.

If you are looking for reports on your laptop, try www.linux-laptops.net and tuxmobile.org.

Thanks, I just spoke to a UNIX/LINUX admin here who said I should have no problems. Now all I have to worry about is Linux recognizing my devices. I found a site that details a successful RH 8 install to my model of laptop ( http://home.triad.rr.com/bldonthtrx/...aio-fx210.html ).
