Installing Red Hat 5.2 to a Dell Poweredge
New to Linux:cry:
Trying to install Red hat 5.2 (Because I had a copy of it). Got the following error "An error occured reading the partition table for the block device hda. The error was no such file or directory." Tried using other progams to delete the partions installed by linux? and start over. Bios in my Dell PowerEdge 500sc sees the drive but will not boot any other systems or programs (from cd or floppy)with the hdrive connected. Linux boots to the point of partion check and the hangs. Tried to killdisk the entire drive and start over. nope Installed a new 40gig hard drive, and the same thing happens, Is there some kind of linux format program I can use to wipe out these 2 drives and start over. I don't think the drives themselves are bad, but the partion table seems to be hosed. I'm in the process of downloading Fedora. Please Help!!!!! |
First of all, help us first by creating better thread titles.
Secondly, get yourself a newer copy of Redhat or Fedora. Redhat 5.2 is from 1998. |
Partion table wiped!!!
I am downloading fedora as we type. My main quetion relates to recovery of these drives. Do you have any insite on that?

I agree that the age of the software is an issue. If this is a server, I would suggest installing CentOS rather than Fedora. Fedora is bleeding edge stuff and is not recommended for a server.
I have also renamed this thread to make the title more descriptive. And I have moved it to Linux-Newbie as the thread fits better there. |
