Installing Qt for X11

I'm trying to upgrade from KDE 2.2.2 to KDE 3.0.1. For this I need the latest Qt installation. To set up Qt I have to set several enviromental variables in the .profile file. They are:

Since .profile did not previously exist I had to create the file. Here's where I get into trouble. I've tried creating the file in both Advanced Editor and Emacs and in both cases no information is actually saved. At this point I have no idea how to create a .profile file and fill it with the above info.

Thanks for the help.

A .profile file is a plain text file in your home directory, bash executes it when you log in (using bash as a login shell).

There are some provisos, read the man page for bash.

I think there are KDE 3.0.1 RPMs available for Mandrake 8.2, I suggest you use those instead of trying to compile from source.
