Hi and welcome to LQ :D

The synaptic package manager is part of Ubuntu.
In your applications menu is "Add or Remove Programs", use it to find and install or remove applications.
As part of the install it seems your hardware has been detected and requitres ndiswrapper to run, is that right?

Welcome to LQ!!

You install SW using the package manager (In Ubuntu: Synaptic or Adept---one or both should already be installed)

What directory does not exist? What were you doing when you got this message?

If you are talking about synaptic package manager then it IS there in System > Administration. It will ask for your password before proceeding.
You should be able to install ndiswrapper through synaptic. The command line version apt-get is also available. Use man apt-get to have more information.
