Installing Netscape 7.1 on Suse 9.1 Pro
I got Netscape downloaded and (almost) successfully installed on my machine. However, Netscape does not appear in my "start directory" (at least, that's what its called in Windows--i.e. the directory that begins in the lower left portion of the screen with the green suse icon). I have to go to the root directory to activate the program by clicking a "shell script" icon that starts the program (then it works just fine).
I cannot get the Netscape icon on my desktop either. I can put a "link to shell script" icon on the desktop, and that does start the program just fine. Can anyone help me finish this installation so that it is a bit more "professional"? I would like to get Netscape into the same directory as all of the other web browsers that I have. In the past, I downloaded the Epiphany and Amaya web browsers and they automatically went to the correct directory when I "untarred" and installed them, so I can't understand why the Netscape didn't. By the way, I did download the linux compatible version of Netscape. Thanks in advance, Some randomn guy who gave Bill Gates the boot. |
First of all, don't use it.
It's crap. Try FireFox (the best netscape based browser ever): http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ For Netscape, Just open a console and type "netscape" to start it. Follow SuSE's 'help' instructions to add it in your menu(if this doesn't happens after your first use of it). |
