Installing Mplayer from source--????

Hi, this is the dead man back with an earlier problem, installng Mplayer. Someone suggested that i should install it from the source, so I downloaded the source rpm for FC1, so I will be obliged if someone would not mind providing me with a step-by-step instructional procedure in order to proceed.

The source rpm package is probably not what they meant. The source files are ".tar.gz" or ".tar.bz2" files. You find the mplayer source on the Mplayer site.

Step-by-step installation notes are provided in the documentation of MPlayer here.

Installing programs from souce is also covered in an article in the linux tutorials of linuxquestions. Direct link.

Hope this helps.

when you're going from a real mplayer source tarball, the installation will work just as with any generic tarball. there are no *necessary* changes from this.
