installing mandriva one 2008 with ubuntu on hard drive ??????
 

i am new to Linux by about six weeks and dummy is an understatement but i am finally enjoying my comp again after dumping windows. i am using ubuntu 7.01 and have downloaded mandriva one 2008 spring to my desktop to install it alongside ubuntu 7 on my hard drive . is this sensible and possible without clash or conflict?
i bought a couple of linux format mags for ubuntu 8 ( hardy heron) and fedora 9...but i don`t as yet like ubuntu 8 and fedora just wouldn`t run ...after installation and reboot all i have is a very dark screen.... still though linux is a joy after years of frustration

I am surprised it has taken you six weeks to find us, but welcome aboard LQ!

Don't worry about being "dummy" - we all started there: but we read, learned, used and liked. That's why we are still here ;)

Of course you can multi-boot many linux distros happily, but some knowledge of partitioning your disk(s) is needed, as is some insight as to how your bootloader (probably grub) works.

I suggest you search this board for "Dual boot" or "Triple boot" or "Multiboot" - there'll be plenty of threads for you to read and learn from.

The LQ member Saikee has some very useful booting links in his Sig. Search for his posts (Search link is above).

Then, backup your vital personal files, and try it ;)
