Installing Mandrake9.1

I installed mandrake 9.1 succesfully. But, it would not restart so I tried running (from what I recall) fsck. After running it i got loads of errors and the system would not load.
I reinstalled mandrake several times deleting the linux partition. However, on every reinstalation I got the same problems with linux. During instalation it always asks me for where to put bootloader and it never did this before.
I guess the solution is to totally format the linux partition, then reinstall. The question is how and after intalling it sucessfully can I get it to restart?

You probably want to "completely wipe" the hard drive and do a clean reinstall from the beginning. "Completely wipe" the hard drive means putting all zeroes in the first sector of the hard drive (i.e. the master boot record or MBR). You will need a bootable floppy for this. An MSDOS floppy is probably the easiest to use.

Once your hard drive is "completely wiped" and you are doing the reinstall, you want to make sure that all of your computer's peripherals are up and running before beginning the install. This includes the printer.

I'm not sure, but it sounds to me like you have your system partitioned out wrong to begin with.

Give us more information on what you did to prep your drive for the install.

One of the easiest ways to prepare a drive is with partition magic, especially if you are doing a dual boot system.

check with you later

The problem with formating the whole drive is that I have a windows partition and I dont want to lose that yet.
I have about 20gig partition for windows and same for linux. I auto allocate the partition on mandrake instalion, as i dont know where to put the root etc. What command do I use to clean my linux partition clean? Is it possible to do from fail safe mode?
