Installing Mandrake 8.1 problem

I have tried to install Mandreake 8.1 Everthing seemed to go ok with the automatic install until the last thing it did was to reboot. All I get now is the Linux logo with something else but it is flashing on screen too fast for me to read. It then stops after about 30 seconds with the message,

initd:id "x" respawing too fast: disabled for 5 minutes.

The only thing I can do is hit return and use root to shudown which is does ok If I then restart it does the same thing again.

Any help please.

Mandrake 8.1 is waaaay old. Mandrake don't even support it anymore. Suggest you get a newer distro and try with that.
