installing madwifi drivers (Atheros AR5212)

Hi.
I recently installed Gentoo (k 2.6.16-r7) on my Dell C400 laptop, and bought an Gigabyte WiFi MiniPCI card (Atheros AR5212). Following some instructions and hints I emerged madwifi drivers and tools. However dmesg returns:
Quote:

ath_hal: version magic '2.6.16-gentoo-r7 SMP preempt PENTIUMM gcc-3.4' should be '2.6.16-gentoo-r7 SMP preempt PENTIUMIII gcc-3.4'
Same for wlan, ath_sample_rate and ath_pci

modprobe ath_hal (or wlan, ath_sample_rate and ath_pci) returns
Quote:

FATAL: Error inserting ath_hal (/lib/modules/2.6.16-gentoo-r7/net/ath_hal.ko): Invalid module format
Any hints?

Try re-installing the madwifi package

Hi

It seems that the modules installed are of the wrong version - compiled for a differend kernel.

Try installing the right madwifi/atheros package from gentoo - the one for your kernel - or if that does not work, try to install the driver from source.
