Installing Linux - problems
I am trying to install linux in my PC and i am having many problems ... let me try to explain.... i have a HD that is 7 Gb Windows 2000 NTFS partition ... 6GB in a auxiliary Windows NTFS partition and have saved near 13 GB for Linux ......
i particioned 500 Mb to a linux swap and 12,5 to ext3 ... i am tryng to install Conectiva 8 and almost all the instalations options make the same problem near to the end of transfering packages : "Kernel panic : Aiee, killing interrupt Handler ! In interrupt handler - not syncing " only the option 'Really Minimal Install' and 'Mininal install' goes ok ... i had already tried Conectiva 9 and Red hat 9 and coundnt instal them either ...... what could be??? thanks

I have no experience with either Conectiva or RH. What sort of hardware are you trying to install on? What exactly happened when you tried installing the other two systems? If the minimal installation is working and you don't have a whole lot of memory, that could be the problem.

Hmmm, maybe it's a bug with the 2.4 kernel. Maybe you should try a distro that uses the 2.6 kernel, like Mandrake 10 official.

u have to set a partition up for the boot loader on the partiton u are installing so the mbr can read from it
