Ok, I was able to get my bluetooth icon etc back, but I am still unable to actually connect to any bluetooth devices. When I click the bluetooth icon its grayed out and it just says Bluetooth: On, Turn Off Bluetooth, and Preferences. When I go to preferences it says Bluetooth is disabled at the top and there is a large button in the middle that says Turn On Bluetooth. When I click that button it grays out and nothing ever happens. Any insight?

Not the "official" cpu speed but it makes me believe it is a 1GHz cpu. Also, on the site where I ordered it:
http://www.aliexpress.com/product-fm...olesalers.html
it says:
1. Use Allwinner A10/1GHZ Cortex-A8 high speed
processor Core frequency reach 1GMHZ ,Coretex-A8 is the most advanced core.
The comprehensive processing ability , hardware performance close to desktop computer .Play HD video ,share blog ,share game amusement and Website read to give you the delight fully digital experience .
So despite the box it came in saying 1.5GHz, I'm betting it is 1GHz.

I guess this the problem with devices that are sorta generic. AliExpress also lists it as having 802.11n, but http://www.mk802shop.com/ says its only b/g and its 1.5ghz (they are selling a model with 1GB RAM, so maybe they are different models). I don't have my box with me, but from memory I thought it only listed b/g and 1.5ghz

And what about the 1080p playback? Has someone been able to play 1080p movies?

Rather than use the prebuilt ubuntu image for the Mele A1000 I have been trying to build my own by following the instructions at:
http://rhombus-tech.net/allwinner_a1..._a1000/ubuntu/
So far no success.
Does anyone have clear instructions on building your own ubuntu kernel for the Allwinner cortex A8?

I have tried the rombus from scratch method but it didn't even blink, now downloading the ubuntu image. Whn I get it up I am going to have a hard and long look in de debian branch kernel as that is more sturdy.

I tried Rhombus' from-scratch Debian instructions without much success. The MK802 didn't try to boot into Android, but if it did successfully boot Debian it wasn't able to gain network access. I was using a USB Ethernet adaptor, so it's possible that the kernel I used wasn't new enough to support this.

OK turns out the drivers are just fine but a depmod -a plus reboot is necessary after each kernel update, in between everything is just fine. I had some trouble upgrading but now I seem to have everything under control. I installed dropbear so I have easy admin access to the box and I must say I have the distinct feeling that it is all even a bit faster then the android system and it does feel much saver with know permission system :-D
One of the things I did was rezise the partition as I installed it on an 8Gb card. I use GParted to resize to use the space that was left over. I also reconfigured apt to use all distro's and remove installed packages after installation to save space. THis can be done easily through synaptic.
I'm now doing another general update and then install lighttpd and the needed php modules. I am having a great time here :-D Love it. But I will get another SD card and replace the Ubuntu part with a Debian part to compare, AFAIK the debian version is more advanced and migt be faster.
PS Probably not neccesary but I would suggest that everybody does make there own accounts, delete the ubuntu and the weng user and pick another password for root.
