I just plugged a 1.5tb seagate external hard drive into a usb hub thats plugged into the mk802 and it worked great. I have had power directly hooked AC to the mk802 this whole time by the way...

OK! great news! so there's no need to use a usb hub that is externally powered!

OK, thanks!
Just in case you didn't know, mele a1000 media player has same CPU+GPU than mk802 and ubuntu can be run there. So, maybe you can find some info regarding 1080p and maybe also about wifi in pages related to it running ubuntu! Just a thought!

The image he's using was originally for the mele a1000, that's part of the reason for wifi not working (the a1000 and mk802 don't appear to use the same wifi chipset).

Yeah, makes sense. Any ideas on how to update with the right drivers?

EricBetts 06-07-2012 04:05 PM

To start with, could you run 'lsusb' and 'lspci' on the box and paste the output?

michaelfisk 06-07-2012 09:26 PM

Ok, I am very new to linux/ubuntu. Whats the best way to run those?

EricBetts 06-07-2012 09:28 PM

You can run them in any terminal. I can't recall what the name of the terminal provided in Ubuntu is. If you don't have ethernet setup, you should still be able to copy the output from the terminal into a text file, then copy that to a thumb drive to move over to your desktop.

michaelfisk 06-07-2012 09:53 PM

Any idea where in ubuntu those are though?

Should be in your Dash.. its the first button on the top left hand side, or you can search terminal and it should find it/launch it for you

michaelfisk 06-07-2012 10:02 PM

Yeah I know where the terminal is, but once thats opened whats the best way to find/launch 'lsusb' and 'lspci'

EricBetts 06-07-2012 10:05 PM

They are commands, much like using dd yesterday, just type them at the prompt and hit enter.

michaelfisk 06-07-2012 10:08 PM

installation instruction for the nic: http://kb.wheretolookfor.me/content/...0-realtek-8176

EricBetts 06-07-2012 10:41 PM

I found "USB: 0BDA:8176 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8188CUS 802.11n WLAN Adapter USB:" on http://wiki.debian.org/rtl819x that make me think it was a realtek 8188cus? although the MK802 isn't advertised as having a 802.11n card, so I'm not sure.
