installing linux in an external hard disk

Hi
my hard disk has got Windows XP, and I want to install linux (Fedora Core 2) in an external usb hard disk, so as to use both;
but the anaconda doesn't recognise the usb hard drive, only the hda partition of my windows.
Is there any way to install it, or being usb connected there is no way?

Thanks

Try SuSE or Mandrake, I have had problems with Fedora not recognizing any form of external storage except my little USB Jump Drive. It won't even recognize a USB DVD drive. SuSE can be installed free of charge across an FTP server.
