Give a link to a laptop review that covers your laptop.

Hello and welcome to LQ.

1. Pick a distro that will install to/match your hardware.

2. Create a way to boot the media, be it usb or cd or dvd or network.

3. Set bios to match the media.

4. Follow the installer's questions.

How much ram does that laptop have? (64M to 64G seen @LQ!!!)
Do you know how to get it to boot from USB (or cd)?
(Is it pre-2010 BIOS, OR post-2010+ UEFI?)

Which http://DistroWatch.com would you like to try?
(What will you use it for?)

Spend some time web-researching this: linux multiboot usb creator

Welcome to Linux. Think positive and ENJOY.

P.S. A totally different route to "What's Linux?": run VirtualBox.org
on your current M$Win computer (per icon in lower left of your post);
it only takes a 'few minutes' (esp with osboxes.org) to easily try Linux
(safe&easy, as an 'app', trivial to delete, on any PC/Mac)!!!
Similar for 'live' distro, but VBox lets you still DDGoo if "won't boot"

On my OLDnetbook, VBox+this7M.iso = Linux4.4 CLI single-program amazing 'toy'
In that$20XPnetbook: multiple Vcomputers, each with a couple vNICs &various Vdrives; wget .deb; ftp/telnet(d-l/bin/sh); scripting; visit /sys /proc; ... =$20preCloudLearningHeaven

There's normally a hot key you can spam after mashing the power button which lets you select alternate boot priorities. Like from USB (since 2006 anyway). It's escape for HPs. F12 for gateway. various del, space, and other keys normally shown on screen after mashing the power button.

As you can see from member responses your lack of information in the OP cannot be answered without you providing additional information.
I suggest that you look at this https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...#faq_lqwelcome so you can compose a post that will help us to help you.

Hope this helps.
Have fun & enjoy!

Same as installing any other O/S.

Use an installation media that is compatible to your laptop, best way is via a pendrive, but CD/DVD are easy enough, if you have an optical drive.
