So can I use fdisk to delete the c: drive and then use Red Hat 9 to make it again?

So how big do I need the /boot? and what is the swap for?

/boot does not need to be bigger than 100mb, it's suggested to give at least 30mb though. Swap is overflow for when your RAM runs low it caches to the hard drive instead of dying.

I had all my work backed up on a drive so all I did was go and get another drive and installed RH9 on that.

Set the drive as master and your backup as slave.

RH will partition the drive for you and you can then mount the backup drive once RH is installed.

Perhaps a cheating option but it works for me :)

here is what i suggest now:
if you have a cd burner, backup all important data files onto that, or if u don't have one, try an online backup place or just find some free webspace hosting (i prefer the lycos network hosting)

then when u get to the partitioning part in linux, choose automatic partitioning and Remove All existing parititons, this will clean your hdd and cleanly install linux


otherwise, i have never used fdisk, but what u need to do is delete all partitions except for the one with your backup data

i'll be back at 5!
