Installing Lilo
 

1.) I wanted to uninstall linux a long time ago when I didn't know how to use it.
2.) Fdisk was broken or somthing and I couldn't uninstall it, or atleast i didn't know how and didn't need the hard drive space bad enough to figure out how.
3.) I figured since im never going to use linux again i might as well return my bios to default so that i dont have to rush to my computer and type in dos everytime i start up.
4.) Now that I learned to use Unix at my dads work i desperatly want to get back to linux.
5.) How do i return my bios to the way it was, or install just Lilo whatchamacallit.

Use a boot/rescue disk set to boot your computer. These can be found at the ditributions web page.
Find your hard disks and mount them.
Decide if your would like to install it to Master Boot Record or to your linux partition master block.
If you had lilo installed try to find your /etc/lilo.conf file and alter it accordingly to your preference.
Then run /sbin/lilo to write it to disk.

i'm confused.
i don't see anywhere in there that you uninstalled lilo. i see you talking about your bios or something but bios to your default, you can do that in the bios. if your still typing dos at the lilo prompt, you should still be able to type linux and get into it, unless you deleted your linux partitions.

LILO has nothing to do with your BIOS. If LILO is still working to the point of giving you a boot menu, you still have some portion of a Linux install on your drive. As ugge suggested, get a Linux boot disk and boot your box with it. Mount /etc and /sbin and look for the etc/lilo.conf file. That is where you can make changes to LILO's behaviour (change the default OS, increase the menu delay, add OS boot entries, etc.). Just remember to run /sbin/lilo after making any changes to lilo.conf. If you want to remove LILO and start from scratch, run fisk/mbr from a DOS boot floppy. That will rerwrite your Master Boot Record, removing LILO in the process (assuming LILO was installed to the MBR). If you want to install a new distro, and you have free space on your drive, just let the setup program take care of the rest.

I just reinstalled linux , but now im having mouse problems. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...?threadid=3587 Im anticipating modem problems after i get my mouse working, when i had linux before my modem didnt work, it gave me some mumbojumbo error. I looked at the list of working modems on some site, and my Supra 56i PCI was on the list, but it had a ? mark in all of the fields, i guess thats a bad sign, i thought i had a very popular modem. Ill just concintrate on one thing at a time.
