Hi everyone,
I wanted to install an application (icecast audio streaming server) from rpm package which I downloaded from the icecast site. During installation the system gave a dependency error saying this library - libcom_err.so.3, which is required for installation is missing.
I downloaded krb5-libs-1.2.7-10.i386.rpm package which is supposed to contain this library .... but when I try to install this, it says newer version already installed on the system
How do I get this library and install it on my system ? It would be better to have the binary file itself which i would put in the desired place.
I am installing cvs 1.11.2, which says I need libcom_err.so.3. Then I tried to install krb5-libs-1.2.7, and I got the same error with yours. I downloaded a newer version of cvs, -1.11.2-17, then it says:
error: cvs-1.11.2-17.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: BAD, key ID db42a60e
error: cvs-1.11.2-17.i386.rpm cannot be installed

So, if the problem is you need the older version installed, maybe creating a link with the old name will do.

I guess the swith --nodeps will force the rpm to be installed. Issue rpm --help and search for forcing switches. I believe there is one specific for disabling these annoying signatures.
A bit of info. I'm running Fedora Core 2. I only have libcom_err.so installed in /lib. The version of Kerberos libraries installed is krb5-libs-1.3.3-1. Running "rpm -ql krb5-libs-1.3.3-1" shows that the following libraries are installed by this package:
The package I want to run is amule and it's calling for libcom_err.so.3. Since the library is not available, and not installed by the package that I thought might install it, I did the following:
cd /lib
ln -s libcom_err.so.2 libcom_err.so.3
amule runs fine now.
I may run in to later problems, but this could be worth a try.
I'm not sure if this will help you but I found that this problem can be avoided if you get the RPM made precisely for your system. However, I'm not sure if this is true in all cases but it helped me a lot.
