Installing Knnopix 5.1 with Windows partition

Hi All, i am very new to linux and tried out the knnopix Live CD and was very much impressed with it and want to have it installed on the HDD......Let me explain my position here... i have around 120 GB HDD with 8 partitions :-) (10 GB C drive i can format for knnopix)...and have 2 Windows OS installed on 2 of that partitions... and i browsed net for the install instructions for knnopix and found some post which said that if i don't install correctly i may not be able to boot my windows also... and the site suggested to use something like GRUB bootloader....... i have no idea on how to go abt this... can any of u suggest on the complete procedure that i must follow such that i can install knoopix on one of my partitions and be able to access windows also??

The best thing to do would to let the Knoppix installed try and install grub and then see if there are errors and post thim here. Usually the befault options on an installl are enough to get a usable system and any tweaks you need to do are minor and just user preference (like renaming the grub entries).

Good luck!

http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/Hd_Install_HowTo

Quote:
Knoppix is designed & intended to be used as a GNU/Linux LiveCD and not a HD installed Linux distro. A HD installed Knoppix will give you a running GNU/Linux system but it is not easy to support or administrate and add/remove of software is complicated and is best left to GNU/Linux experts. Examples of such issues can be found in the Hdd Install / Debian / Apt forum. If you are a new user and not a GNU/Linux expert & want a HD installed system then skip the LiveCDs and go directly to a distro designed to be installed to a HD, for example Debian.
