Installing Kernel Source

I've noticed that to install certain things (including nvidia drivers) you need to have the kernel source installed. I know this needs to go into /usr/src/linux. I have kernel 2.6.3 and I can't find an rpm for that kernel for my distro (Mandrake). Could i just download 2.6.3 from kernel.org and extract it to my /usr/src/linux folder?

I believe that would work. Also, don't forget the kernel headers (don't know where to get that for Mandy and 2.6.3).

Hrmm, not sure what the kernel headers are. Are those not included in the kernel tar.gz file? And would they also go into the /usr/src/linux folder?

The kernel headers are the include files for the kernel, and they're used in compiling most things from source. Again, I'm not sure where to get them for Mandrake and kernel 2.6.3, but you could always check Google.
