Installing Kernel

Hello there,
Now please bear with me because i'm a complete newbie with Linux.
After years and years of running M$ software i have now decided to see if i could cope with the move over to the little penguin

So, i took my chances and installed SuSE 9.3 (i had it laying around the house)
however, i only have the first 3 discs out of the 5.
So, i continued until i found that my Belkin wireless 54g card isn't supported.
i have downloaded ndiswrapper and have extracted it, then when i use the make command i get an error saying that i don't have the kernel installed.
now i have downloaded the kernal (2.6.11.4)
but i'm not sue how i install it?
could anyone point me in the direction of some sound advice please??

P.S. - cracking site you have here, really informative

thanks!

Check Suse 9.3 support for ndiswrapper howto. http://tuxmagazine.com/node/1000167/
has ndiswrapper article that may help with install/troubleshooting ndiswrapper. Check if your Belkin is just wireless card or router combo or dsl wireless router. pcmcia or usb or pci card? Good luck.

Also good to know that bitbenderforums has active Suse9.3 section with step by step installation and howtos(for instance getting mp3 play). Hope it helps.

thanks, i have checked out the link to that tutorial, but unfortunately it's not what i was after, i know what i need to do with ndiswrapper, it's just i am missing the kernel required, when i use the make command for ndiswrapper.
so i just need to know how i install the kernel 2.6.11.4 - i have it as a .tar.gz file type.
i will check out those other forums now
thanks for your help!

ok, sorry for this guys... i can't believe the problems i'm having with this!
i have never felt so stupid in my life! lol

i just can't seem to get this kernel installed.
i downloaded the tar.gz file and have command to 'un-tar' it (sorry for my non-technical language)

i now have a folder called 'linux-2.6.11.4'
but i don't know what to do with it.
i have tried the make commands (which i'm not sure exactly what i'm doing) but that throws up a load of errors saying that it can't find the files/folder required.

to make things easy on me, does anybody know if the kernel is available just as a file (like a module) so that i don't have to run any commands to make it work??

Please please help, i so desperately want to leave the crazy world of M$!
Thanks
