installing ipchains

Hello All:

I'm doing the big push to ease my use of linux: I'm using RH 7.3 w/ kde on the desktop.
I've also become more security concious.

How easy or difficult is it to install ipchains?
How practical is ipchains?
Does it work? Well? If not well, what other alternatives do I have?

I'd have thought that RH 7.3 is recent enough
(kernel >= 2.4) to actually use iptables?
Ipchains was the 2.2 kernels firewall, and
is "deprecated".

It's quite easy to set-up if you take the time
to read the manuals and the other documentation
available ....

Or you can just use graphical frontends like
Firestarter or Guard-dog, or pre-fab scripts
as can be found on

Or search here :}
