Installing intltool for Gimp

I run OpenSuse 10 and want to install the last GIMP's version. I tried to install gimp but got the following error message:
configure: error: Your intltool is too old. You need intltool 0.36.3 or later.
So I tried to install a new version of intltool. I installed it in /usr/local/share.
But I still get the same error message while trying to install gimp. I gess Suse can't find my new instltool. How am I supposed to install it?
Thanks for any help.
