Installing GRUB using YAST (openSUSE 10.3)

Hi,

Is there any way under YAST to make GRUB write it's stage1 bootcode to the SECOND hard disk...there appears to be such an option under YAST for LILO but not for GRUB(?!).

I've got WINXPMCE and a recovery partition on my first disk...and with no Win install disk I don't want to destroy the bootcode on disk-1.

Any ideas gratefully received.

I would have considered using YAST's "Generic boot code" but there doesn't appear to be anyway of directing that to a particular disk either.

Is it just me or is 10.3 a touch dodgy? (Broken system recovery etc.)

Haven't had a chance to install 10.3 yet, but on 10.1 when you get to the installation settings screen if you click on the expert tab, then go down and click the Booting section you will have a lot of different options as to where grub gets installed. Should be able to select your second drive there.

Section A of the 2nd link in my signature refers.

If your Suse's /boot is in, say, the 2nd partition of the 2nd disk you can follow Task B4 and B5 to install/restore Grub in the MBR of the 2nd disk. In a Grub prompt or a Grub shell the commands are just
Code:
root (hd1,1)
setup (hd1)
If you use Lilo check up Task B3.
