Installing GRUB

I have downloaded the GRUB files and have them in my downloads directory. Eventually I am going to be loading Windows XP onto this computer and Dual Booting Linux (Slackware 9.1 (kernel 2.4.22)).

how do i install grub? I am a linux newbie (this would be while I am here).

Please... HELP!

Welcome to LQ!

You really didn't give us much too work with in the area of information.
Read this GRUB manual for answers.
It is advisable to install Windoze before Slackware.

Slackware 9.1 uses LILO by default, which IMO is easier than GRUB.

ok as I remember in your download GRUB folder there will be folders like boot and bin
you copy files from boot to /boot etc
then you learn how to edit /boot/grub/grub.conf or menu.lst
then you install grub with 'grub-install /dev/hda' (MBR)
