Installing from hard disk
 

I think you can install Linux Mandrake 9.0 by downloading it and installing it from a hard disk. I don't have a CD burner so I'd really like to do this! How different will it be from installing by normal CD install. What kind of provisions need to be made befor I can do this?

You can install from a hard disk. Do you have an existing Linux system that you are going to download the iso images to or will you be downloading to windows?

Hmmm...well I've never done this before so don't take this as the "defacto" way of doing it.

Of course you'll have to download Linux first to a specified directory. Then create an install boot disk. Then during the install it should ask you what install method you want. Choose "Hard Drive" or something similar to that and when it asks for the location of Linux point it towards the directory where you downloaded Linux.

I think this is the framework for what you have to do but as for how you exactly do it I'm not sure.

Quick question: How is the boot disk created?

Usually from the Linux cds.

i think crashed_again's answer will work fine..

pretty sure u can make boot disk without cd too..
