Installing from CD

having a strange time installing software from CDRom (as both user and root).

When I try to install JBuilder4 from CDrom by running the script file, I get errror message "./install_linux:/bin/sh:bad interpreterermission denied"

What is going on? Seems like problem with permissions.... If I copy the files to my hard-disk, I can install them fine....

When the files are on the CDRom, the owner and group are "99"...

When I copy the files to my HD, they belong to that user....

In any case, I would like the user to be able to install software into his user area from the CD...

any suggestions?

You've got the "user" mount option in fstab, which implies "nosuid", "noexec", and "nodev".

Secondly, you're not overriding the uid/gid and mode of the files on the CD, which you may want to do.

Look at "man mount" in detail, but the quick answer is to add the following mount option *after* user in /etc/fstab:

This will allow executable files again, which is what you want. The files are owned by user/group 99, since that's set to "nobody" on many systems. You can force the ownership with uid/gid mount options, but you probably don't want to bother, and it's overridden by Rock Ridge anyway.
