installing from an externel hard drive
 

I have a 60gb usb 2.0 hard drive and put the instialtion files for Suse linux 8.2 on it because that was the only thing i had that could store 6 gb on. I don't have the internet hooked up to the computer im installing it on so i figured that would be the best way. Now i cant figure out how to mount the usb hard drive. any help would be appreciated.

If you're installing from a USB then you will need your BIOS to recognize USB devices as bootable. Some BIOS don't do this, and so you might be SOL.

Plan A) Take your usb-hd to a working computer with a cd/r drive and burn the install disks from your iso files and install from CD.

Plan B) Take your usb-hd to a working computer that is able to mount and browse your first iso image file. ( The instructions to create the boot floppy you need to install from a usb-hd saved image (.iso) file are probable on the first disk.
You are in a catch-22 situation, because the floppy boot image you need to install from a usb-hd is probably on the first image file.

I got it. I would have just burned the .img files but it didn't come in the form of .img files. I didn't need the bios to recognise the hard drive either instead i just ran the regular intallation and it mounted the usb hd and then went back and did a manual installation from the newly mounted usb hard drive.
