installing fluxbox error
I installed fluxbox than when I run it - fluxbox it says:
similiar... Failed to read: session.screen0.overlay.joinStyle Setting default value Failed to read: session.screen0.overlay.capStyle Setting default value BScreen::BScreen: an error occured while querying the X server. another window manager already running on display :0.0 Error: Couldn't find screens to manage. Make sure you don't have another window manager running. Im using the default windows manager when I installed Fedora I would think. I guess I have to disable or uninstall the windows manager first? thanks for any help and hello :) |
When you say you ran it did you type it on a terminal window?
I think you are trying to run it on top of a window manager that is already running, if you are then try logging out and selecting your session as FluxBox? |
On another note, if you want to run 2 window managers simultaneously, you'll need to set up another instance of X running on a separate virtual terminal. You can do this by adding to the X config file. I did this sometime back.

yes I typed it in terminal so should I go to text only mode and than logout?
please tell me what commands I should be using. Im new to linux but know so stuff already. |
Ok first of all just log out of your WM onto the login manager. If your login manager is GDM you'll see a button called Sessions, click on it and a list should appear with Fluxbox on it. Select it and login again, this time you should be logged into fluxbox.
I've not used KDM in a long time but I'm sure there's something similar (Session Type) there also. vxc |

The logout command only works if you are using a virtual terminal shell (The ones you can reach by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1/2/3/4/5/6). If you type logout from a shell window inside your desktop, the shell window will be closed, thats it. |
just click on the desktop menu in gome and select logout
