Installing Firefox, question...

I have downloaded Firefox 1.0 and can install it, but when it gets done it won't run and I get this message:

eExtensions - failure, catching exception so finalize window can close
*** loading the extensions datasource
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: XDM authorization key matches an existing client!

(firefox-bin:4826): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

Can anyone explain to me what this means?

UPDATE: Instead of going through the console, I went through the point and shoot system and clicked on a script called "Firefox" and it ran fine. So I guess you are supposed to execute a script to run a program in Linux? I'm so lost...

Still curious as to why I get that error trying to run in the console, but atleast it's working

the first time you tried to run it, were you logged in as root? that often happens because your X permissions are not set properly

just go into the console as a normal user and try it, should be ok

Hi... I don't believe I was logged in as root, just as my normal user account. I went into a console and installed it per instructions from someone on here. But I got that error when it would try to run. I read somewhere else that it has something to do with security, not allowing it to run from the console or something like that, but I have no idea.

I made a shortcut on the desktop and it runs fine. Trying to figure out how to change the icon now.
