Installing Firefox
Hello, I am a complete and utter Linux N00b.
I recently installed Fedora because I couldn't stand windows much longer.... Anway, To get to the point at hand. Fedora came with Firefox 1.0.4, I want to upgrade to 1.0.6. I've got to the point of actually installing firefox and I get this. [root@localhost firefox-installer]# ./firefox-installer ./firefox-installer-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Can someone help me figure out what I need to do? |

Yum would probably be the way to go from what I know about (I use Mandriva, but this seems similar to urpmi in that). If someone else is reading this with a similar problem (or you want to make things difficult) you seem to be missing packages that firefox is dependent on. The answer would be to install the libstdc++ package. If you install using Yum it should automatically find that package and install it at the same time as firefox.

Yum is a installer for RPM based systems.
Mine is not RPM |
Just do a:
#yum update Firefox is one of the many updates that will be installed assuming you have a recently installed system. Not only firefox will be updated but around 300 pkgs will be updated. BTW. If in fact you are using Fedora, you do have an rpm based distro. I also recommend you update your information to reflect which distro you are using. That will make it easier for people to help you. |
You said in your first post that you are using Fedora. That is an RPM based system, so yum absolutely will work for you.

Sorry for saying that it wasn't RPM.
I had 2 downloads for Fedora. I had figured because the one didn't have RPM in the name ment it wasn't rpm. FC4-i386 FC4-i386-SRPMS |
Those are the installs. You have to have the system installed before you can use the package manager. Also, you don't need the sRPMs disk, those are the source RPMs, incase you want to build your own customized RPM.
