Installing everything again from Scratch Mandrake 9.0

Hello guys.

I've playing around with Mandrake 9.0 for like a couple of months now and I've managed to stay alive thanks to all of you. However, I had to download, install, uninstall, erase and things like that, so my HD kida got all messed up, dirty and with broken dependencies all over. So I erase it all and I?m going to install it from scratch.

This is it. I have all 3 disks from Mandrake and I know I?m not going to use all that's there. I'm going to develop C++, Java, I'll be needing an Apache server (is it the best?) with full PHP and mySql support. Is it already there? if not, I know where to download but I have trouble managing those ini files on Windows, is it the same in Mandrake?

I hate winXP so I'm planning to format and install just Linux. But I need all of my hardware. Somethings I've managed to install (ethernet card, sound, video) but I don't know about others... how can I know exactly which is correctly installed and which not? (modem).

Thanks a lot..... one more thing, that makes me shy to ask.... someone here told me I could contact him at #something.... I think that's mirc but I dunno........ what's that? sorry :(

thanks thanks a lot

what type of modem is it ?
if its internal PCI modem it could be a problem...

have a look at winmodems.org for the list of what works and what does not....

motorola sm56 modems work, but only on OLD distro's
connexant modems work,
but you will either need to buy the driver from linuxant.com,
or compile it yourself (contact me i have the source)

if its an external modem, it should be fine. you can test it by using kppp to attempt to dial out.

hello

it's an internal modem but I believe it's ISA. I'm using a HP Pavilion 7972 I visited linmodem.org and downloaded this program to know the chipset but it only works with linux (it's scan.gz, funny because if I have problems with modem how can I download?) so I'll check it out..... but first af all, how can I check which hardware is intalled and which not?

oh oh I just checked and it says

Ranura PCI 3

(it's in spanish, ranura = slot)

I just did it and it told me to download:

ltmodem-kv_2.4.21_0.13mdk-8.26a6-1.i586.rpm

I did and double clicked on it, it says everything went fine but I did:

rpm -ql ltmodem-kv_2.4.21_0.13mdk-8.26a6-1.i586.rpm

and it said it's not installed...... how come?
