installing emacs and gcc in ubuntu without a network connection
hi everybody!
i've been using emacs under red-hat linux on the campus where i go to school. now i've put ubuntu on my home machine and i need to get emacs and gcc working on it. there's a big complication, tho...i don't have a network connection on this machine. i got the emacs22.1 TAR file from FSF and used my thumb-drive to transfer it to my machine. however, when i ran ./configure, it said that my C compiler cannot create executables. is there a way that i can get gcc working, and thus emacs, without using a network connection? thank you so much for any advice you have :) |
Hi,
and welcome to LQ! Chances are you won't have the necessary components to compile emacs from source installed, either. I'd suggest you find the dependencies for emacs using dselect (or aptitude or whatever you're familiar with) and download the relevant .deb files for installation. Cheers, Tink |
