installing earphones using USB port instead of a jack

 Hi.

Gentlemen/Gentleladies: Please forgive the off-the-topic question, but I hardly know how to navigate this page, much less the technological landscape here. With that said.......

Does anyone know the procedure for simply getting Linux to accept earphones, so that the sound comes out them instead of the speakers?

I always thought you just plugged them into the speakers via a jack.
Einstein here (me) just blew $52.00 on earphones that plug into the USB port. No problem pugging them in; but Ella Fitzgerald's voice keeps coming out of the speakers - NOT the earphones.

Could someone offer a tip or two?

naiveguy: plug em in, and set the output of gnome/kde/app to be your usb earphone.

For everything else: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...isplay.php?f=1
