Installing earlier versions of linux CentOS 7 kernels for VMWare Workstation 12?

HI

I am using the CentOS 7 linux and have been trying to install the VMWare Workstation 12 Bundle. I have successfully installed, but then get the usual "couldnt find kernel and header files for this vmware", for which did the following:
sudo yum install kernel-devel etc.
I have all the latest kernel files as so: kernel-3.10.0-327.36.1.el7.x86_64
but the VMWare Workstation bundle requires: kernel-3.10.0-229.el7.x86_64, which i'm assuming is an earlier version.
I have downloaded this version, but Centos 7 is not letting me use it by returning the following: Sorry this did not work, Installation of Header files for the Linux kernel for use by glibc failed.

Any ideas on how to get around this VMWare problem?

Many Thanks
