You can purchase an CD from vendor:

or check out in a newsagent for Linux magazines, normally they come with CD/DVD and sometimes install
CD is included.

Or if it all fails, I post you one Let me know.
That was for OP who has a macbook, so he/she could burn an image.

This might do it:

"Got it to work.... whew!!

1) had to pull and erase/reformat the disk to get rid of Dell Diag partition and other junk

2) re-booted and hit F12

3) selected Diagnostics (which now appears... before it did not)

4) run Diags.... when it completed, it asks if you want to boot from CD

5) inserted Windows boot disk into DVD and - Presto - it booted

What a lousy way to have to make this simple think happen, but, hey -- it a Dell!"

I couldn't have said it better.

so i found that old computer of my wife's and it's an even older inspiron, a 3800. i was able to install debian wheezy with little difficulty. i think the issue on the 5100 was the cd-rom drive. it appears to just be kaput. don't know about the memory on the 3800 (i'm sure it's just stock) and it has a pentium 3. seems to be working pretty well in the intitial stages, though i haven't toyed with it but for a few minutes after install. will probs open a new thread to post/ask questions since i'm not on the 5100 anymore. if i do get around to hooking the 5100 up with linux, i will post any of that info here with what i did to remedy the problem(s). again, thanks everyone for chiming in!

While Debian will work with a Pentium 3 it will be as slow as a wet week if you chose Gnome or KDE as the Desktop Environment.

Right function key at startup for selecting boot menu not being pressed? ISO not being burnt properly? Trying to put a DVD-ROM in a CD-ROM-only drive?
