installing Centos on a Windows Laptop as the secondary OS
I have downloaded a three part centos ISO and i need to burn it to a CD and then i need instructions on how to install it because i am constantly programming in C++ and it is much easier in Centos than in a secure shell connection
get some free space on your windows disk
e.g. 80GB all used by WIN-NTFS format, then
40GB WIN, and leave the other 40GB unpartitioned.
Boot with the 1st ISO of CENTos and the rest will be done automaticly.
After the install of centos is finished and you reboot, you'll see a new splash screen after the POST. Say Hello to the grub bootloader this let you choose between WINDOWS (if you didn't changed the boot entry during centos install it will be listed as OTHER) and CentOS.
THATS it and there is no other better way.
Partiton Tools are Acronis Partition Expert or PowerQuest Partition Magic and so on.
1. get some free space on your hdd and leave it unpartitioned
2. boot 1st centOs.... continue.... and so on... (With open Eyes!)
Finish
And the standard:
- burn the ISOs as images and not as files.
- back up the irreplaceble data from your XP system before you start.
(obvious perhaps, but I had to learn the hard way )
