Installing Caldera

Hello,

I can't figure out how to install open desktop 2.4. The screen goes blank during installation. Do I need to partition the disk for linux? Any suggestions on how to get Caldera 2.4 working?

Total newbie Josh

This is a double post in a different sort of way. You should keep your questions on related topic to the same thread. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=23295

Unfortunately I can't really help to Caldera 2.4 without system spec info, and what you did before the screen turned blank. But I can tell that you do have to partition the Hard Drive for Linux especially if you want to have another OS kept on there as well.

Here's a list of the things you might see when partitioning:

hda - primary master
hdb - primary slave
hdc - secondary master
hdd - secondary slave

If you see number at the end of one of the above, Eg.

hda5

This stands for the partition number 5 on the primary master drive.

Thanks. I did post this in the software section, but realized it was more of a newbie question. I have a Pentium 200mhz, 32mb ram, and a 4gig HD with nothing. I used dos fdisk and linux fdisk to partition it and i'm hoping this will work. I don't know what other specs to post. There is nothing on the drive.

Appreciate the response, Josh
