Angry installing atheros 9285 driver in backtack 4 using vmware

Hi all I am really strugling to install my atheros 9285 wireless card driver in backtrack 4 in vmware i am pretty new to linux and have been playing with various linux commands to see if i can get more familiar with linux. I have downloaded a linux driver for atheros card but dont seem to be able to install it could some one please advize on where to download the correct driver for my card and how to install it any help will be very much appreciated ps i have been following various guides and downloaded a driver but cant get it into the root directory of linux in vmware or inst airmon-ng comes back with no interface still

AFAIK you don't need to install drivers for your host hardware in a virtual machine, as the VM has completely different "hardware" than the host, i.e. the guest OS sees a completely different set of devices. I don't know much about VMware, as I don't use it, but have you installed the VMware Tools in your guest OS? Those might come with proper network drivers...also, have you checked to make sure that there's some kind of "NAT" or "Host" option for your guest's network adapter, and that it's enabled?
