Installing applications in ubuntu without apt-get

Hi all,
Does anyone know of a site where i can download deb files from?
have a bad internet connection, so would like to download the software i need, and just install at home.

Also, the audio and video codecs, where can i find them if not via apt-get?
Thanks in advance.

You can use 'apt-zip' to generate a wget script to fetch files; it's much better than making up your dependency list by hand.

For the audio and video codecs, see (and read all the warnings and stuff).

Depends, what distro are we talking about? If it's ubuntu, then you would use the medibuntu repository - but I assume it's not as that repository should be enabled by default (at least in the most recent release).

As pointed out, the downside to downloading debs is that you'll need to keep track of dependencies yourself - and that can be quite a chore. It's possible, though.
