Installing amsn....(total newbie)

Hi ppl, I'm a complete newbie to Linux, i have Windows XP ,and thought Linux had better capabilities. So i installed RedHat Linux 7.1 and i needed MSN Messneger installed, so i done a search on yahoo for "msn messenger for Linux" and it gave me a link to amsn. So i downloaded it, assuming the install process would be pretty much the same as Windows, But how wrong was i :(.

If anyone can help, i'd REALLY Appreciate it, and i need MSN to talk to friends. Thanks....

:):)

I use gaim it's the best one (my opinion)

if you want to install it, read the "important - about installing programs" thread

and type :
apt-get install gaim :)

Any chance of making a step by step guide of how to install that mate? I've downloaded it, and Extracted it, but i'm notwlost :(

I think there's gaim included into RedHat 7.1, so all you need is to find it on one of the cds (gaim*.rpm file) and install it (from console) using
rpm -i packagename.rpm
The thing is that RH7.1 is quite old, so gaim included into it will be old, too.

I guess you have the source version. If I remember correctly, you need to open a terminal, cd to the directory you unpacked gaim sources to and use the commands below:
./configure
make
su
(enter root password when you see "Password:")
make install
exit
