installing a sound card

Hi
I just don't know how to install my sound card ((known as Soundblaster 16 , awe-32 or compatible under windows)).
For exemple, when running astd (I kon't know what it is), I was told : devie /dev/dsp can't be opened. Anyway, I can't hear a sound out my computer (cd player).

You need to do chmod 666 /dev/dsp*, /dev/mixer* and /dev/sequencer* as root. This error message means that the device files for your sound card in the /dev directory have the wrong permissions, its a common thing in a fresh linux install with a lot of distro's.

Start up the sound mixer and check the volume.
