well, i uninstalled alsa. then i recompiled the kernel. after that, i got the newest alsa and installed it with ./configure --with-cards=ca0106 --with-sequencer=yes then make and make install. i set up alsaconf and restarted my pc. only thing is the sound is not as clear as windows. is there a way to adjust the sound? i know alsamixer, but that seems like its only for volume.

I only know alsamixer. Unfortunately some sound cards are not very well supported so sound may not be very good when compared to Windows. On Windows you have the advantage that you are using drivers from the manufacturer.
