Installing
 

Ok, here is the rundown. Every time I try to install something (My soundcard, counter-strike...etc) it gives me a pop up saying that it's not associated with GNOME, and it asks me if I would like to associate it with GNOME. It still doesn't work? How come I can't install my sound card or anything? (It's a Sound Blaster Live! 24bit soundcard from Creative.) Do I need new drivers or something?

first off what distro are you using. and 2nd any more info you can give would be great so we can help you further. i think i have the same soundcard you do.

Mandrake 10.1, GNOME 2.6.

do you know if that is the only soundcard in that computer. what i mean is if you have an onboard soundcard and its not disabled than your gonna run into a problem getting it to see it.

Ok, sorry for the late reply. I am running on my onboard audio right now, so do I have to disable that to run my soundcard correctly? Also, is it possible to run a .exe file? Like, I want to run a LAN version of Counter-Strike 1.6. I have it on a cd. I typed:

and it gave me a long list of applications. How would I install it?

ok sorry i dont know anything about counter strike but as for your onboard card you want to go into bios and locate where it is and disable it i only know dell bios so if its not a dell i would search for your motherboard/bios on google

AFAIK the only way to run an exe file in Linux is by using Wine. You might want to look into Cedega for gaming.
