Installin Scientific Linux on Acer Iconia A1-810 tablet with Android
I just bought a new Acer Iconia A1 model 810 running Android operating system on it.
I would like to install Scientific Linux (a free version of RHEL) on my tablet beside Android operating system. Does someone know how to do it? If yes, please send me the information, or the link on web where I can find it. Thank you very much for your support Virgiliu Beregic |
Have you read through the SL forum ?
http://scientificlinuxforum.org/ or the web site http://www.scientificlinux.org/ |
Hi,
AFAIK this is basically impossible. Straight off the bat you have the problem that SL only has builds for x86 (both 32 and 64 bit) processors, not for any version of ARM processor. Then, even if an ARMv7 port did exist for SL, you would have to deal with all the other (presumably) unsupported hardware, not to mention the problems with trying to build/run/install an embedded system. HI John VV,
Thank you very much for your fast answer. Based on your information, I will try to install Ubuntu on the tablet, and then on it the simulation software Geant4 that I use for my simulations in Medical Physics. Do you think that selecting Ubuntu is a good choice? Sincerely, Virgiliu |
There are other distros that are available for tables. check this link out http://www.techradar.com/us/news/sof...e-from-1162825
You can also install a custom android ROM check on the xda forums for the model of your device. Good luck to you. |

Hi TRON-0074
Thank you for your information, I was already there and selected Ubuntu, which fits better for my needs. Sincerely, Virgil |
you might get ubuntu installed but you will have a few years of fun porting this to the ARM cpu
http://geant4.cern.ch/support/download.shtml http://geant4.cern.ch/support/ReleaseNotes4.9.6.html It is a Intel CPU program and the version 10 beta no longer uses autotools http://geant4.cern.ch/support/download_beta.shtml it is a cmake project http://geant4.cern.ch/support/Beta4.10.0-1.txt |
