Question INSTALLED SUSE 9.3 CANNOT LOGIN from console

I just installed Suse 9.3 64 bit and the installation went seamlessly. However, I didn't enable automatic login, don't know if that is why I am presented with a console login screen, but regardless, the passwords which I meticulously entered and wrote down [in large black marker characters], are not working. Or perhaps I'm doing something wrong: there is first a prompt to enter a user name, at which I type the user name I created, then hit enter. Then follows a prompt for a password, and I type in the password, hit enter, and it tells me the login has failed. I tried logging in as root, but same thing, no good. I know I am typing the same passwords I created earlier, particularly as I had to enter them each twice, and carefully, in order that they would match.

Aside from not being able to get into the system, it would also be nice to have a graphical login screen. Any help anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated!

Try this

Remember that linux is case sencetive, make sure that you are typing in the right case letters. I would log in as root and then just type this command, init 5 and you be brought into the graphical log in screen.

If that doesn't work, your best bet is to re-install it.

It may be that the wrong keyboard layout is used. You can test this by typing your password in the username field.

The graphical login requires your hardware to be properly configured, so it may not work at the beginning. But you can try: type '5' on the initial boot menu and it should take you to the graphical login (if graphic works!).
