installed program via source, how can i find the executable?

I just installed kopete by compiling the source code. I then tried to run it, and i cannot find the executable. Ive searched online and apparently i was told in the shell the location of the install, but i didnt know, and didnt look. I tried using kappfinder to add it to my k menu, but that didnt work, and i tried looking in usr/bin and such. how can i find it? many thanks from a true new user.

maybe it's not called what you think it is? inside the Make file where you built it, the install locations will be listed, or install it again, and watch where it goes. it will just overwrite itself.

Is there a README file? Those are usually very good and describe what should happen and what files to look for.

by default when you compile from the source most applications use /usr/local as prefix, try "whereis kopete" to find where the excutable is.
