Question Installed Kubuntu on P3 ,512 MB RAM not working


Hi ,
I just now installed a latest version of Kubuntu on my desktop after the installation it asked me to reboot so ,I restarted my PC but after booting Kubuntu nothing is displayed instead of that a blank screen with mouse pointer and at the top one blue window is coming nothing seems to work .Thanks in advance .Help me outta this .

A P3 with 512MB RAM is a too low spec machine to run KDE 4. I would recommend to use a different desktop environment, like Gnome, XFCE, LXDE or Enlightenment. All these DEs should run fine on your machine.

Also, LXDE is not unlike KDE 3 in looks, so if you are a fan, I would suggest it.

Will ubuntu 10.10 work with my desktop ?

In my experience Gnome (which is the desktopenvironment for Ubuntu) uses less resources than kde4. I've once (last year) installed Arch with gnome on a PIII with 512MB of Ram and it ran very well.

Ubuntu 10.10 is one of the more resource-hungry versions, I would definitely try it, but not expect to much. May be that Xubuntu or Lubuntu is a better choice for you.
