You might want to try using Azureus.

try typing this into the console if you know the name of the bit torrent executable:

whereis bittorrent (assuming this is the name of the executable)

this will display the path of your bit torrent program. I'm about 90% sure this will work. The whereis command has helped me when I really needed to know where those pesky programs were lurking. On a side note, you can use the whatis command in the same way as whereis to find out what a program is (like, whatis bash). Hopes this helps.

The console client is called btdownloadcurses.py and the GUI client is called btdownloadgui.py. Those are the names of the actual programs you'd run when you want to download a bittorrent file; i.e. btdownloadcurses.py ~/down/torrents/install-x86.iso.torrent.

I used the the locate command and that provided me with the location of bittorrent. Getting this to work will be something else. I am still too new to linux, and to used to windows. I was expecting an icon on the desktop.

You don't start the program by itself, you click on a torrent link then tell it to open that link with your torrent client.
