Installation Trouble with 2 distributions

I downloaded Ubuntu linux, After using nero to burn it as a bootable disc i reboted and got somthing call caldera dos! i have no idea but apparently that isnt suposed to happen, I used sonic record now to burn it as a bootable but this time my computer launched XP even though i told it to boot off the CD drive! I disabled hard drive booting but it said "BOOT FAILURE REPACE SYSTEM DISC" I got a version of fredora or what eva its called DVD iso, Once again i burnt it with nero and then record now! but this time nothing happened at all! Just boot windows, I diabled my hard drive and again the same message! I need some help to install fredora and how to boot off the DVD, I know it can because it loads the windows XP cd!!

BTW PENTIUM 4 2.4 ghz 512 ram 60 gb hard drive LG DVD burner are the comp sepecs

check the CDs/DVDs that you burned to make sure that you did not simply install the .iso file (Happens all the time--I just threw out at least 10 where I had done this). The CDs should each have MANY files on them.

YEP, that is what it has done! how do i fix this?

You have to use the option in you CD burner to "create from ISO" (Or something like that). I don't know details for Nero.
Some burning SW is really obscure in this regard---which is probably why this happens so often......;)
